Alaskan Cruise

For this weeks throwback travel post I wanted to highlight my favorite vacation that I’ve been on with my family. This past May my brother and I both graduated from college – him with his masters (proud sister!) and me with my bachelors. To celebrate, my parents took us on an Alaskan cruise! We ended up staying in Vancouver for a few days and then headed off to Alaska.

Our ship stopped in Juno, Ketchikan, Icy Strait and Skagway. I cannot tell you how cool (pun intended) it was to wake up and look out the window and see glaciers. Pretty stunning right?

One of the most memorable moments of the trip was when I was sitting on the deck reading a book when all of the sudden a pod of orcas breached. To see wild orcas, not in the pool-sized tank at SeaWorld, jump from the water was so breathtaking. The only bummer was that I left my camera in my room but the memory is still perfectly intact.

When you think of Alaska one of the first things that usually comes to mind are the ice-sledding dogs. And since I had to be away from dog for almost two weeks I was in desperate need of some man’s best friend time. We ended up going to one of the places where the dogs are trained and where they keep the huskie puppies.  To say I wanted to sneak one away with me was an understatement.

Before I went on the trip I naturally looked on Pinterest for some of the fun things to do. I came across this train ride that you can take called the White Pass Summit in Skagway that was originally built for the Klondike Gold Rush and is more of a tourist attraction today. I kept jumping from inside to outside of the cart because while it was ridiculously freezing the views were spectacular.

So if you’re planning on taking an Alaskan cruise feel free to reach out if you have any questions! I did so much on this trip that if I wrote it all down you would go from “This is amazing!” to “Damn. Can this girl stop raving?”

P.S. I’m leaving for a company cruise tomorrow to the Bahamas so check back early next week to see how it went!
